DiDi vs taxi in Australia · which is cheaper?
- Regulated taxi benchmark
- DiDi city coverage
- Updated for 2026
Short answer: DiDi is usually the cheapest — off-peak. DiDi Express runs a lower rate card than both UberX and a regulated taxi meter, so on an ordinary weekday trip it lands roughly 15–25% below the taxi maximum and a little under Uber. Two catches: DiDi surges 1.5×–3× on busy nights and events, and it doesn't run in every city. A taxi can't surge and can always be hailed. Use the calculator above to lock in the regulated taxi number, then compare it to whatever DiDi is quoting in the app right now.
